We arrive in this world as equals and leave this world as equals. My resting place will be no better or worse than yours when my times comes but I know I will have a memory box of dreams that I can take with me.
I had a dream and tried very hard to fulfil that dream and whilst doing so was a part of and witnessed the most wondrous breath-taking things and most of all I was fortunate to share my dreams with Steve.
We weren't lucky to live our dream, we'd worked hard for 40yrs laying down the foundation that would hold us up when we finally left to live our dream of sailing as liveaboards to wherever the wind took us.
Yes we've had to compromise, we can't physically hold our children or hug our grandchildren. We still have parents that are with us. We left very good jobs 12yrs before official retirement time and the remuneration from our private pensions will not be as good. But......we can video talk to all our children, grandchildren & parents. We have a small private pension and we have a home we own. We have a yacht we love and that we know is capable of taking us wherever we want and we know the budget we have to live on.....WE CAN LIVE OUR DREAM.
Our families grow up and create their own circle of friends & gradually slowly their need for you is less and less. We'd bought up our children to be independent in a loving but working home. They all know the importance of being able to set a goal in life and each of them have started achieving these. This had been our biggest dream, for our children to be happy & healthy and bring their children up to love & live their dreams.
What we do now in living aboard our boat full-time sailing from port to port visiting places we didn't know existed, being fascinated by the different cultures, adapting to a different cultural way of living, seeing magical ocean life and being able to do this without restrictions in our own time is what our life is about and we love it and cherish every day of it.
Don't let anyone tell you you can't do it. All dreams are achievable in some form. They have to be worked for otherwise you'll never appreciate them. You need to be able to look back and say you lived a part of your dream. You may have to make compromises in order to reach and maintain your dream but remember these are your dreams that you can take with you wherever forever.
A dream or goal doesn't have to be a forever thing it can be anything. What you need to be able to say is 'I have my memory box of dreams' 💙💚.
Perfect x

ReplyDeleteDefinition of luck = a collision between opportunity & preparation. It doesn't get handed to you, you have to make it happen - and you and Steve have. I remember you both joining us on board Bali Blue in Spain at the start of our adventure and again in Leros a couple of years later. You shared your dream then and I was fortunate to join you on your test sail on Cordelia. Since then you have never wavered and now your videos and blog are a wonderful reflection of real life living aboard and sailing your dream. Well deserved - Sail On! xxxx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Carol. You and Pete inspired us so much to do what we are doing now. In those early days there were times when I thought we wouldn't make it and I'm sure a lot of people thought that too but it just shows what determination can achieve.
ReplyDeleteWe too will never forget picking you up on the dockside to join us on the test sail and look at what we have all accomplished since then.
Our dream is to sail the world as you did but to be honest we are already living the dream and I am reminded of that every day.
Thank you for. your lovely comments xxxx

DeleteFor you both, your determination has brought you the true "Pot of Gold" because the adventures your having now are priceless. It's not been easy for you, I know, all those difficult choices not to mention both of you working all your lives whilst raising your family. LUCKY? You are both so LUCKY that you actually appreciate the beauty that surrounds you...........some never do.....no matter where in the world they might be. We are in awe of your life, the life you made!
ReplyDeleteThank you Robbie & Sue. I am so glad that you are a part of it and that you chose to share your time with us. We love our life but are also appreciative of the fact we would find it much ore difficult if our children did not support us and want to be a part of it too.
DeleteI'm happy for you to be in awe of our life but much happier that you are part of it and that we have now created memories to share xxx
Lovely words. You could almost pass as an inspirational speaker. Love you mum and dad and hope it's not too sunny where you are because its miserable here xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you Mike. This is a life that we want to share with all of you as much as possible. If it weren't for our 3 wonderful children being as awesome as you are this life of ours would not be possible, thank you xxx
DeleteWe circumnavigated on Cordelia - she looked after us well. Where are you now?
ReplyDeleteHello Heather, that is our intention too. We are currently in La Linea and will be here until April, going into the med until this time next year when we intend to cross to the Caribbean. Are you still sailing and if so where?
